Now that Open Enrollment is over for the 2014 plan year, you may still be able to make changes or buy an individual or family health insurance plan if you qualify for a special election period.  Qualifying events will include: Birth, Adoption, or Placement, Change of address resulting in access to new or different plans.  Change in circumstance causing new eligibility for a premium tax credit (if enrolled through the exchange or lose employer coverage).  Loss of Health Care coverage (includes loss of employer coverage, or government assistance).  Marriage, a mistake by the exchange, or a violation in a material provision of a qualified health plan contract.  Each of these provisions have a specific date that they are be able to begin with.  Typically starting on the date of the event.
