When dealing with Insurance there are two factors to consider.  The first is the price of insurance, this is how much you have to pay monthly, annually, etc. to maintain your policy.  The second; the cost of insurance, is how much you have to pay when you use your insurance.  All too often consumers get stuck on the price and stay less concerned with the cost.  In the world of health insurance Iowa has a carrier that has some unique plans that help manage these factors.

If you are willing to pay a little more in premium (than some of the other plans offered by this carrier)  there is a plan in Iowa that has some unique benefits.  While the plan still has the basic structure of deductible and co-insurance.  How and when they apply are what makes this plan unique and provides you with some valuable savings.  Some key benefits on this plan include in-network visits to your Doctor.  These can be covered 100% for all preventative visits while non-preventative visits can be covered at 10% or 20% of the visit (the deductible is waived and goes straight to the co-insurance).  This benefit even includes your lab-work and x-rays (if done by the appropriate provider).  This plan can save you money by reducing your overall office visit costs and offering richer coverage.  For example;  if your average cost for a Dr's visit is $200 for office fee and then $500 for additional testing than with a traditional individual medical plan would look something like a $35 co-pay for the Dr's visit and then $500 for the deductible on the lab-work (most plans have lab-work and x-ray subject to deductible).  This would mean that your out of pocket would be $535.  With the above mentions co-insurance plan you would pay (if all billed and done correctly) just the 10% co-insurance ($20 on the $200 and $50 on the $500).  This would make your total visit $70 versus $535 with a more traditional plan.
